Fruit Tart

IMG_8143.JPG
I really enjoyed making this week’s recipe for Tuesdays with Dorie from Dorie Greenspan’s book, Baking Chez Moi.
I love pastry cream. It is one of my favourite things in the world to eat.
I made this part of the recipe first, a vanilla flavoured pastry cream.
Next I made the crust which turned out wonderfully delicate and flaky. I’m getting to know my new ovens and following directions, I removed the base at 25 minutes to take the weights off the pastry and found the base darker than I had hoped. Luckily there was no burnt taste. Other than that, I had fun making and decorating this tart.
Everyone loved it. What is there not to love?!

Mini Pavlovas

fullsizeoutput_cbd.jpegThis week’s Tuesday’s with Dorie is Sunny Side Up Meringues.
I love meringues. Adore them. However, there was something about these egg looking cookies that messed with my head. I just kept thinking of boiled eggs. So I took Dorie’s suggestion and filled the center with a dollop of cream and fruit and called them mini pavlovas 🙂

Every year we make a 12 egg Pavlova for Christmas (it is perfect for our hot Sydney Christmas weather). Then I make another one for the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. And a third one to eat as we watch the fireworks to welcome in the New Year!
We are hard core Pavlova fans.
So the decision to make mini Pavlova’s was easy.
These were delicious! Very delicate and waaay too easy to eat!
Looking forward to reading what the rest of the Tuesday’s with Dorie group thought about these.

Summer Melon Berry Soup

We just returned from perfect winter weather in Queensland to cold, cloudy days in Sydney.
We spent a week here…

So to return to the 15 to 16 degree celsius weather in Sydney was a bit of shock.
This week’s recipe though kept the summer feeling alive.

Dorie’s Cold Melon Berry Soup was simple, light and refreshing.

I must say, I prefer the melon just cut into pieces. Natural.
Drinking rockmelon (sorry cantaloupe!) was not my thing.
I think my husband thought the same, the rockmelon balls were his favourite thing.

But it looked great and definitely created an atmosphere of summer on a cold, rainy, Sydney day!
